"My art contains part of my soul. One cannot work on a creation for several months without putting one’s soul into the work. One’s art is a ceation of one’s self. If you do not allow your feelings to reflect in your art, it has no soul and will never stand on its own." - Robb Barr

The extraordinary leather art of Robb Barr has caused many to stop and study... Working with a single flat piece of leather, Robb breathed life into his creations. The final products, their depth and texture, are life-like and dynamic.

A proud member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Dakota Nation (Sioux), Robb spent several years inventing and refining his techniques. In 1986, his dedication, creativity and superior talent were recognized when he was awarded the Al Stholman Award for Achievements in Leather. This is the highest honor attainable for a leather craftsman or artist.

Today Robb’s unique art has been exhibited in galleries and public spaces around the world - including such places as Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Holland, Germany, Switzerland and Canada. It has also been shown extensively within the United States.

Robb sadly passed away in 2002, but his spirit endures in his artwork. Several pieces are on display at the XXX Museum in X, Wyoming. Many are held in private collections, and a few precious pieces are maintained by his family and closest friends. Three pieces are currently for sale.

This website has been created in Robb’s memory. He believed strongly in the importance of sharing new techniques and ideas. He spent a great deal of time teaching students how to create their own life-like scenes in leather, and for those whom he could not teach face-to-face, he created a series of instructional videos.
